Join the professionals as they excavate, what might just be the earliest settlement in Glastonbury (c. 1640 - 1650). “This is one of the most exciting archaeological sites in the state at present,” said Dr. Jones. Preliminary studies using ground penetrating radar have identified a series of underground structures. Artifacts excavated in the area have dated as far back as the 1640’s – when Glastonbury was founded.
As a guest archaeologist you’ll learn the early history and geology of Glastonbury, basic techniques of identifying and preparing a dig site, and the general procedures of excavation. The majority of your day will involve partaking in an authentic archaeological dig. You will excavate in prepared grids, locating, sifting, identifying and cataloging your finds. Check one off your “bucket list” and become an active participant as history comes alive under your fingertips!
Space is limited and reservations are required. Student cost is $10, all others $15. Bring snacks, lunch, plenty to drink and be sure to wear closed shoes.
