Awesome April Breal 2018 Workshops

The Museum offers a series of workshops for kids during April school vacation week. On each day, there will be two 3-hour workshops for kids ages 7-12. Pack a Snack! The program fee is $25 per child, per workshop, and $20 for museum members.

Monday, April 9, 9 a.m. to noon   Whimsical Fairy Land

Kids need magic in their lives.  Whimsy, a belief in that which can’t be seen, fairies, elves and gnomes are what makes up the whimsical fairy land they will create.

 Monday, April 9, 1 pm to 4pm   Make a Rag Rug or Mat

Colonial children were put to work and play making rugs and mats from strips of cloth. What they don’t finish they take home to complete. All materials provided.

 

Tuesday, April 10, 9 a.m. to noon   Hearth Cooking I

A child’s favorite. Young cooks will use colonial recipes and cook over an open hearth the old-fashioned way! (space fills up quickly)

Tuesday, April 10, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.     Mosaic Craft

Trace silhouettes of pets, monograms, or your family; fill them in with colorful tiles, beans or buttons to hang on your wall!

 

Wednesday,  April 11, 9 a.m. to noon   Pop Corn, make Snow Cones

Did you know colonists popped corn over an open fire?  No microwave popcorn for them. Make caramel corn over an open fire and syrup for the snow cones to enjoy with it while playing colonial games.

Wednesday, April 11, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Paper Flower Making

Decoupage a jar or vase and make different paper flowers to celebrate the arrival  of spring!

 

Thursday, April 12, 9 a.m. to noon  Pizza Making (back by popular demand)

Kids love pizza!  They love making pizza!  They love eating pizza!  Make and  bake pizza the traditional way in our historic beehive oven, colonial style.

 Thursday, April 12, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.     Dream Catcher Workshop

Create and design your own Dream Catcher and learn its Native American history and uses. Taught by a native West Hartford resident Stephanie Daley.    Materials are provided. No experience necessary.

Friday, April 13, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.     Tussie Mussies and Sachets

Make a Victorian Tussie Mussie out of fragrant flowers to carry with you or to wear. Make a sachet out of fragrant dried herbs and cloth to keep in your drawer so your clothes smell sweet
