Michel Fokine's historic one-act ballet, LES SYLPHIDES, was premiered in Paris in 1909 and featured Anna Pavlova, Tamara Karsavina and Vaslav Nijinsky dancing the leads. Frequently cited as the first ballet to be simply about mood and dance, the Connecticut Ballet premiere took place at The Palace in Stamford in 1986.

Lila York's contemporary ballet, STRAYS, set to Aaron Copland's Clarinet Concerto, was premiered by the company in 1990. It was Ms. York's first commission by a ballet company. She has since become one of the foremost female choreographers of her generation, creating works for Boston Ballet, Royal Winnipeg, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Royal Danish Ballet, and Scottish Ballet. In March 2017, the Paul Taylor Dance Company (her home company) will premiere her latest work at Lincoln Center.

The final work stems from Connecticut Ballet's 2008 'Tribute to Broadway' program. Entitled STEAM HEAT: THE BEST OF BOB FOSSE, this entertaining medley of classic Bob Fosse dances is a tribute to the creator of such hits as 'Sweet Charity,' 'Pippin',' 'Dancing on Broadway,' and 'Chicago.' Staged by Broadway veteran Ricci Adan, this is certain to be a rousing finale for the 35th anniversary gala program.
