The Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical Society will hold its 11th annual Gingerbread House Workshops this December. Gingerbread Day is an annual event for kids and adults alike to construct a homemade creation from homemade gingerbread, fresh icing, and delicious candies.

Adults are invited on Friday, December 8 at 7 p.m. to a BYOB event, and on Saturday, December 9, three family sessions will be offered at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m.

On Saturday, families can spend a kid-friendly day at three different sessions. Kids and adults alike can build a delightful (and delicious!) house from holiday themed candies, white icing, and homemade cookies. The museum's play area, Noah's Discovery Learning Space, will be open during each session.

These workshops give families an opportunity to take part in one of America's oldest traditions. Gingerbread recipes appear in the oldest American cookbooks. Ingredients like molasses, ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon, sugar, and cloves were hard to come by in the colonial era. So difficult, in fact, that President John Adams remarked to a friend, “I know not why we should blush to confess that molasses was an essential ingredient in American independence. Many great events have proceeded from much smaller causes."

At the Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical Society, we are celebrating over 10 years of building gingerbread houses together.

Pre-registration is required as space is limited.

A maximum of two people may work on each house.

Admission: $15 for museum members and $18 for non-members per house kit.
