The Historical Society of Glastonbury is always bringing history back to life right here in Connecticut.   On Sunday, April 19th from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at the Welles-Shipman-Ward House, 972 Main Street, South Glastonbury, the Historical Society of Glastonbury will be dressed in their colonial best, demonstrating 18th century textile crafts.

These crafts were anything but a pastime for American women in the 18th century.  If a family was to be clothed, or to sleep in a comfortable bed, it was necessary for the women of the family to work at these skills.  Demonstrations will include counted cross stitch, crewel embroidery, hand knitting, and much more.  We will be putting a new warp on our 18th century loom.  Learn about how people lived in the 18th century and gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for life 200 years ago. This is an event for anyone and everyone.  Spend an afternoon with the Historical Society of Glastonbury taking in demonstrations, enjoying the Connecticut River Valley mansion built in 1755, and learning the history of textile skills of early America women.    $5 admission per person includes demonstrations, entrance to the Welles-Shipman-Ward house, property, and barns.  Visit www.hsgct.org for more information.
