How do children express and communicate meanings through the language of visual literacy?
The North American Reggio Emilia Alliance (NAREA) is thrilled to invite you to a special day at The Carle! This year’s Spring New England Brick by Brick is inspired by Malaguzzi’s concept of the hundred languages of children and dedicated to exploring the multiple languages of visual literacy. Lella Gandini, U.S. Liaison for the Dissemination of the Reggio Emilia Approach, will share the story of the “atelier” or studio in Reggio Emilia, Italy, and its evolution as a context that invites and nurtures visual literacy within the school and community. The day will also include optional visits to the Hampshire College Early Learning Center and small group discussions regarding topics such as the communicative power of picture books and young children’s use of materials and media to make and communicate meaning.
