Pequot Sherwood Sleepaway Camp

*The event has already taken place on this date: Mon, 08/14/2017
Camp provides programs designed to engage campers in nurturing their physical and emotional growth and development.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

Through recreation, sports, nature and arts programs we create an atmosphere where campers can explore their interests while building character and friendships.

Pequot and Sherwood campers spend a great part of their day with the children in their age group. Campers choose their own activities from within their age group, eat in our dining hall with their tentmates, and have swimming and boating lessons together. There is time during the day during two elective periods for all campers to participate in activities together as well as all camp events and evening activities everyone participates in together.

Boating

WATER SPORTS

Water activities are high on our list of what summer camp is all about. Our mile long, crystal clear lake is pristine due to the regulated absence of motorized boats. All campers participate in American Red Cross swimming and boating lessons. Our water activities include kayaking, funyaking, water trampoline, rope swing, cliff jumping, canoeing, fishing, rowing, sailing, and our newest addition a 100-foot-long water slide.

Hockey

FIELD AND INDOOR SPORTS

In the spirit of the traditional camp experience our field and indoor sports include: soccer, softball, baseball, basketball, roller hockey, tennis, archery, volleyball, dodge ball, and much, much more! All-Camp events include the Olympics, Scottish Highland Games, Fishing Derby, and Capture the Flag. There are plenty of ways for kids to play, develop confidence and learn valuable skills.

Petting Llama

THE FARM

Campers love to join in our FarmHands program. Our farm is home to llamas, goats, alpacas, donkeys, ducks, peacocks, cows and more. Children are able to groom, feed, and care for the animals in their own habitat. Llama trekking to camp sites has become a camper favorite with all ages. In the GreenThumbs program campers learn all about growing, tending and harvesting as care for the camp veggie and flower gardens.

Hiking Girl

HIKING AND CAMPING

Campers will experience an “overnight” each week across the lake. They learn camping skills, assisting their counselor with the set up of the campsite and the cooking of meals. Day trips are also an exciting aspect of camp life. Campers may have the opportunity to spend a day at the local beach, canoe on the Connecticut River, or hike through the Cockaponset State Forest.

Arts & Crafts Table

ARTS & CRAFTS

Our Arts & Crafts Studios are top notch and always buzzing with creativity! Campers have the opportunity to join in the arts & crafts program every day as classes are offered every activity period. The ceramics & pottery program is a great place to learn the art of clay from throwing to glazing in our state of the art studio. Throughout the summer, campers can participate in such creative endeavors as basketry, leatherwork, jewelry making, eco-art, painting and much more.

Super Heroes

…BUT WAIT! THERE’S MORE!

We strongly believe camp should be a completely different experience than school.  On top of campers choosing thier own traditional activities, we encourage our staff to get creative  and our campers to speak up about what they might like to do.  If you take a walk around camp during any given activity period you might find: Kung Fu lessons, a seminar on Arctic Survival skills (should the weather become a few degrees cooler), a group of Knights protecting the queen of hearts, rap battles, or even fish petting – just to name a few things.  Our main goal is fun and making sure kids spend their summer being kids!
