From chicken-like "compys" to giants who could dwarf your house, dinosaurs are still some of the coolest creatures who have ever lived. We'll cast tracks, see how they lived, uncover some "fossils" and you'll get to take home some hand-crafted and decorated paper dinosaurs or dinosaur parts (warning - you may need a bigger refrigerator door!)

Saturdays, March 4, 11 & 25, 9:00am-3:00pm

Class Descriptions:

3/4: Forensics & Fossils!

Because there are no dinosaurs alive today, fossils are the only thing left as evidence! Put on your thinking caps as we step into the role of a forensic scientist. By the end of the day, students will be able to determine whether an animal flew or ran, was tiny or HUGE, strong or slender, and so much more – just by examining its bones! Students will also assemble and decorate a skeleton of their own!

3/11: Did Dinosaurs Have A Sweet Tooth?

PrimeTimers will trade in their forensic scientist hat in for a dentists magnifying glass. By studying the structure of dinosaur teeth, students will be able to make conclusions about that dinosaur’s diet! A large part of life is finding and eating food, and these dietary preferences are reflected in an organism’s teeth -- whether they are a carnivore or herbivore. This will be the best “Dentist” visit you’ve ever had!

3/25: Field Trip to CT’s Own Jurassic Park!

On our last Saturday of PrimeTime: Dinosaurs,” students will visit CT’s own Dinosaur State Park located in Rocky Hill! PrimeTimers will use what they’ve learned over the previous two classes to transform into the ultimate paleontologist! We will look at different minerals, pre-historic plants, and gigantic dinosaur fossils! Then, students will venture outside to see life-size dinosaur skeletons and the inside of the Arboretum, which showcases plants that grew in the day of the dinosaur!
