Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.
- Ecology
With 20 acres of mountain and forest habitats, local plants and animals, students can study flora and fauna, soil and water, equipment and labs. They can also conduct biology research from bacteria to humans, including circadian rhythms in plants and animals.
- Astronomy
View the sky in Connecticut’s largest teaching planetarium and on our mountaintop campus using technology, a variety of telescopes and astrophotography gear; and see the world’s largest visible model of the solar system from our sundial/observation deck!
- Meteorology & Energy
Explore and collect data using our weather station, learn how to analyze and visualize the results to produce forecasts, research tornadoes, hurricanes, climate, and more! See how weather shapes our planet and our lives. Then explore even further by using our on-site thermal and electric solar installations to collect and analyze energy data. You’ll produce and test working models of solar, wind, fuel-cell, hydro and other power systems and combine them to create new solutions for green and economical energy!
All classes meet for six weeks on Saturdays from 9 AM to 3 PM at Talcott’s mountaintop campus in Avon starting April 22, 2017. All courses let students explore new areas of science and technology, integrated with math and language arts, taking on the role of a practicing professional scientist.
Join us on the mountain for authentic, hands-on, minds-on science!
$395 for TMSC Members / $450 for General Admission
