WORLD OCEANS DAY at Mystic Seaport!

*The event has already taken place on this date: Tue, 06/08/2021
We celebrate World Oceans Day to remind everyone of the major role the oceans have in everyday life, and the important ways people can help protect it. On this day we will offer two special activities for visitors.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

At 11:15 a.m., join our staff at the historic Thomas Thomas Oyster House to learn about the fascinating history of oyster fisheries and farming in New England.

At 1:00 p.m., Director of Exhibits Elysa Engelman will give a gallery tour of Mary Mattingly’s Open Ocean in the Schaefer Building. Through artifacts from the Museum’s permanent collection, Mattingly, a leading contemporary artist from Brooklyn, New York, developed an exhibition that tells stories of time and space, invention and commerce, and climate change and depleted resources.

Weather permitting, “Spouter,” the Museum’s life-sized inflatable sperm whale will also be on display! Come celebrate the beauty, the wealth, and the promise of the ocean.

Activities are included with general admission and free to members.

*Times, dates, and prices of any activity posted to our calendars are subject to change. Please be sure to click through directly to the organization’s website to verify.
