Stanley-Whitman House, a museum of Early American history in the heart of the village of Farmington, presents “Down on the Smith-Whitman Farm,” a program for children ages 6-10, from July 11 to 15, 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM each day. The program will provide a unique hands-on experience with farm animals & birds, reflecting experiences of children on a typical Colonial farm. The program is centered at our historical house & includes a walk to the Hill-Stead Museum’s pasture to visit the sheep of Clatter Ridge Farm and a trip to the SubEdge Farm for a total working farm experience. Each morning will be spent with a different animal, learning about their care and uses. Afternoons will be filled with activities about the animal of the day. Animals include goats, chickens, pigs, sheep, geese, turkeys, and ducks. The cost of the program is $190 a child. More information and registration sign-up can be found at www.stanleywhitman.org or by calling 860-677-9222. Stanley-Whitman House operated as a family farm during the 18th century, so having this program at the museum is not only exciting, but partnering with our active local farms is a perfect way to have a fun week along with a real local historical experience.
