The University of Guelph-Humber (UofGH) is "over the moon" to host their 4th annual Science Rendezvous (SR) event in collaboration with Astronomy in Action and Let’s Get Together.  This free, interactive, all-age, science event is part of the national Science Chase event taking place virtually across Canada on Saturday, May 8th, where participants will make their way across the country, completing activities & challenges, all from the convenience of their own device at home.  The focus of the SR event is to bring Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) to the broader community through the lens and innovative minds of post-secondary while igniting the spark of curious minds.

The main theme for the University of Guelph-Humber’s online event this year “Take me to Space! connects Kinesiology and Astronomy; led by UofGH Department of Kinesiology in partnership with Astronomy in Action.  Participants will visualize their trip to space where they’ll then learn about how the human body eats, sleeps, exercises, practices hygiene, and maintains personal wellness all in a weightless environment.  In keeping with the main Science Rendezvous #STEAMgreen theme, participants will also learn about waste management in space and climate change on earth from space.

 But wait!  There’s more!

Participants can also explore fun science-based activities from other departments including:

Justice Studies – Students are presented with 360-degree footage of a crime scene and act as the ‘detective’ to solve the case

Psychology – Students will participate in a facial recognition activity contextualized in a police lineup.

The University of Guelph Human Anatomy Lab – Students are invited to experience a live teaching demonstration exploring several anatomical regions

Professor Justine Tishinsky, PhD, Co-Chair of UofGH Science Rendezvous Committee  and Interim Assistant Program Head of Kinesiology at University of Guelph-Humber shares “We are excited to showcase the fun of science through our students’ eyes in hopes it will inspire the next generation of innovators and scholars!”

Participants can expect to engage in a mix of pre-recorded activities as well as live, synchronous events where they can interact in real time with our students and partners, including Let's Get Together, who will be recruiting youth for STEAM-related and other volunteer opportunities and also help answer questions related to post-secondary education.

We invite students from across the world to join the University of Guelph-Humber and its students, faculty members and community partners for their “out of this world” experience before launching into a fun-filled day of STEAM challenges in the national “Science Chase” across Canada.
