Wooster Square Cherry Blossom Festival

The Cherry Blossom Festival celebrates the annual blooming of the park’s Yoshino Japanese Cherry trees as well as the vibrant Wooster Square neighborhood with an afternoon of live music, hands-on activities for all ages, great food and more. Exhibitors include Elm Shakespeare Company, Creative Arts Workshop, and Neighborhood Music School. Also Peabody Museum on the Road, New Haven Museum, HorizonWings – a raptor-rescue group, Nappy’s Puppets (shadow puppets) and the local Library Readmobile.

Children & Families Area with arts & crafts, fun learning experiences and more. Exhibitors include Elm Shakespeare Company, Creative Arts Workshop, and Neighborhood Music School. Also Peabody Museum on the Road, New Haven Museum, and HorizonWings, a raptor-rescue organization that is hugely popular with families. In addition, Nappy’s Puppets (shadow puppets) will be back as will the ever-popular face-painting, and the New Haven Free Public Library Readmobile.

Returning: Wooster Square Reunion Area - for current and former Wooster Square neighborhood residents to meet and greet.

More than 50 local exhibitors, including artists, authors, non-profits; close to 20 local food vendors with food ranging from hot dogs, pizza, Caseus Cheese Truck, Italian ices, crepes to Indian and Middle East cuisine.

Pet-Friendly Area with dedicated exhibitors including A Dog’s Life, Friends of the New Haven Animal Shelter and Veterinary Wellness Center.

Friends of Wooster Square Award: Elsie Blackshear Chapman
After a 30-year career at IBM, Elsie Blackshear Chapman moved to New Haven in 2003 and quickly became a pillar of the community. She served as president of Historic Wooster Square Association for many years and is an active planner and organizer of this Festival. She serves as the president of the New Haven Free Public Library Foundation, vice chair of the Board of Directors of the International Festival of Arts and Ideas, and is on the board of the New Haven Preservation Trust.
