Yale Peabody Museum Summer Camps

*The event has already taken place on this date: Fri, 08/12/2022
Slots are open in all three of this year's exciting, ecosystem-themed camp experiences. Your rising 6th, 7th, and 8th-graders can spend two weeks with our museum educators studying forest, ocean, and ancient ecosystems out in the field and here on the Yale University campus.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

Does your middle-schooler love to explore the world around them? Give them an unforgettable experience this year in the Yale Peabody Museum’s exciting summer program!

Choose from three camp themes—forest, ocean, and ancient ecosystems—that bring participants on educational field trips and into our world-renowned collections. We’re inviting rising 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade campers to participate in behind-the-scenes learning and outdoor nature adventures that highlight environmental stewardship and advocacy. They’ll encounter researchers working in their labs and the specimens they’re using at the cutting-edge of science. Though our galleries are still being renovated, we are thrilled to be able to provide summer opportunities for young people who want to learn more about nature away from their computers.

Our small group, themed camps have a 12-to-2 camper-to-staff ratio. Each two-week camp session (with some overlap in activities) includes:

  • Several visits to our collections for in-depth, hands-on learning in natural history
  • An on-campus field trip to one of Yale’s many extraordinary cultural and scientific institutions to learn about the important role of museums in science and the arts
  • Lab-based experiments that teach scientific inquiry and lab safety practices
  • Natural history collecting during off-campus field trips
  • Expressing science through journaling, drawing, painting, and other creative mediums.

A special feature of each camp is an individual or team project for every camper to explore a personal interest during the session.
