Vacations should be fun, right? At the Talcott Mountain Science Center, students who spend their vacations with us laugh, learn and love what they're doing! Our programs are hands-on, our classes are small and there's always something for everyone.
All classes are Mon. & Tues., Feb. 20 & 21, 9:00am - 3:00pm
Grades K-3:
Art & Science
From cave paintings to pixel art, students create cool artwork by hand, on computers and using tablets. Tie dye using nature’s colors, make ice sculptures and leaf prints. Painting, sculpture and more to make and take. Get ready to mix that palette and create!
Wild Winter Weather
Snow, ice, rain, sleet, ice and rime — get ready for some really cool stuff! Students will collect and make their own snowflakes, ice sculptures and snow shelters. They’ll even get to 300 degrees below zero with some liquid nitrogen!
Grades 4-8:
3-D printers have opened up a world of do-it-yourself design and manufacturing, from game pieces to prosthetic arms. Using tools including SketchUp, 123D Design and MakerWare, students will design, build and print gadgets and 3-D models!
How can the sun work for you? Can you cook with sunlight? Find the answer to these questions and others as you switch on to solar energy! Discover how electrons energize lamps, wires and motors as you build simple circuits and see how the sun can generate power through the use of photovoltaic solar cells.
