Overview
Our Enrichment Afterschool Program is designed to challenge children and engage them in an outdoor setting. The gardens, barns, trails, and play forest are used as the primary classroom space for learning STEAM-based activities. A farm-based educator works with small groups to create a Social Emotional Learning experience for school-aged learners. This program is designed for students in Kindergarten - Grade 5.
Projects are led by a professional educator and include art, science, cooking, animal care, and garden time. Experimenting, creating, and learning can happen in a slightly more structured manner in a small group. It is important to learn the joys of cooperating, sharing with one another, taking turns through play, and experiencing fine and gross motor skills through projects.
Schedule
Children are dropped off in the Welcome Center, at 3:30 PM. The Welcome Center is adjacent to the farm parking lot. Once everyone has arrived, we head to our classroom to drop off belongings. We will gather together for a brief meeting and discuss the plan for the day. Children are asked to bring a snack and water bottle with them, we will plan a snack time each class.
Once we have gathered, we will head off to explore various areas of the farm. Hands-on projects are offered, which may take place on a nature walk or at a specific location. The majority of the class is held outdoors throughout the year. We do have our own indoor classroom to use for inclement weather and for specific projects. At 5:20, we collectively cleaned up whatever we had been working on and gathered our belongings. We meet parents at the Welcome Center at 5:30 PM for pick-up.
