Gregg Museum of Art & Design - "All Is Possible" Virtual Tour

This exhibition contextualizes Mary Ann Scherr’s early career in industrial design, illustration and fashion during the 1940s-1950s, and special highlights in the form of larger pieces in metal (eg. academic medallions for NC State and Meredith, four aluminum mythological figures and body monitors). Scherr’s range of jewelry design are also exhibited, including chokers/ necklaces and cuffs/ bracelets; titanium work; and smaller pieces/ personal commissions. Many pieces, currently in private hands, are exhibited for the first time.

Since the Gregg Museum of Art & Design is temporarily closed to the public, we have created a virtual tour so that this wonderful exhibition can be enjoyed without leaving your house! We are proud to present Mary Ann Scherr’s, All is Possible. We hope you enjoy the tour.

Dance Videos/Tutorials with VDanceTogether

I have put together 8 fun instructional dance videos/tutorials with other dancers from different parts of the world including Ecuador, Mexico, India & Russia. Through VDanceTogether we can help children stay physically and mentally active! My hope is to bring positivity to these children, and help relieve some stress that many of them are feeling during this time. These videos will inspire children to stay active and provide them with something to get excited for! Because this project includes dance tutorials from all over the world, the kids have an opportunity to learn about different cultures and connect with the dancers!

I can provide these tutorials on a USB flash drive to user. I can also send downloadable videos through email. I hope you will be interested in joining my project to help kids stay active especially through the pandemic! It will be a great way to get them connected with art, learn about different cultures, and meet dancers from all over the world.

Due to COVID-19, many researches have shown that many children are at a risk of facing mental health issues. This has prevented many children from staying active, and it has disrupted every aspect of a child’s life from their health, development, learning, and behavior. Dance is an essential element that can enable the simulation of mental activity and spread the physical limitation of movement.

Creating Community Through Traditional Dance and Music

Creating Community Through Traditional Dance and Music

Families and communities have provided for their own entertainment throughout history. This program of community dancing and music helps students to develop an awareness of what life was like before television, computers, and CD's, especially during the 18th, 19th, and early 20th centuries.

Peter Davis, Paul Rosenberg and George Wilson involve students in discussions about the role of homemade music and dance to celebrate weddings, historical events, community gatherings, and to make social commentary. Students are introduced to the origins, sounds and uses of folk instruments - including fiddle, banjo, mandolin, clarinet, pennywhistle, and guitar.

Workshops are chock-full of community–building activities that get everyone up and moving. By participating in community (folk, contra and square) dances and singing games, students experience a variety of styles and customs from different countries. These are living traditions influenced by various cultures over the centuries. Dances presented come from more than 50 countries in North and South America, Europe, Asia and Africa.

Surrogate Mother Requirements

What is Surrogacy?

Surrogacy is a modern and growing means of bringing new life into the world, where a woman carries a baby for another person or a couple. The intended parents undergo in vitro fertilization (IVF), meaning fertilization outside of the body, to transfer an embryo into the surrogate mother’s uterus. In our work at ConceiveAbilities, surrogates are not genetically or legally related to the baby and are compensated for their time and service by the intended parents. In 2018, more than 10,000 births took place by surrogate in the United States, and the market is steadily growing at 15% per year based on data from the Centers for Disease Control. And, in the past ten years, the percentage of all IVF transfers that took place with a gestational carrier grew from just over 1% to 4.8%.

What Are Surrogate Requirements?

In order to ensure that surrogacy can be a healthy and successful experience for you, the basic requirements include your age, your experience with prior deliveries, and your medical history.

The basic requirements include

  • Have you given birth before?
    • A history of at least one full-term, health and uncomplicated pregnancy is essential to ensuring your surrogacy journey is healthy and successful.
  • How old are you?
    • At the time you are matched with intended parents, you should be between 21 and 40 years of age.
  • Where do you live?
    • Compensated surrogacy is legal in most, but not all states. And, certain locations are highly valued by intended parents and you can earn higher compensation.
  • Are you a long-term US resident?
    • The surrogacy journey is lengthy and is accomplished only by working with a US-based IVF clinic.
  • Are you physically healthy?
    • You must have an uncomplicated medical history, not be over- or under-weight, not currently smoke, and be free of certain chronic conditions.
  • Are you emotionally healthy?
    • Your surrogacy journey is demanding and requires a stable foundation in your life without undue stress.

Musee d'Orsay, Paris: Online Exhibit

The history of the museum, of its building is quite unusual. In the centre of Paris on the banks of the Seine, opposite the Tuileries Gardens, the museum was installed in the former Orsay railway station, built for the Universal Exhibition of 1900. So the building itself could be seen as the first "work of art" in the Musee d'Orsay, which displays collections of art from the period 1848 to 1914.

The Alaska SeaLife Center (ASLC)- Virtual Visits

Our Education Department will present daily live programs on YouTube at 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm (AKDT), seven days a week. Visit our Virtual Classroom to learn about Alaska’s marine ecosystem and the Alaskan animals we house. Past programs can be accessed from ASLC’s YouTube channel.

We will also stream via live webcam from one of our aquariums on YouTube from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. This content will change daily, but you might have the opportunity to watch puffins swim underwater, view our seals and Steller sea lions, or relax with our moon jellies.

Also, watch our website and our Facebook page for announcements of special Facebook Live events. Our staff will introduce you to resident animals, teach you about the different flora and fauna we house, and take you behind the scenes. A special announcement about one of our animals will take place via Facebook Live on Thursday March 26 at 10:00 am.

While we are closed to the public, our dedicated animal caretakers, veterinarians, and researchers will continue to provide the highest standards of professional care and welfare to our animals onsite. During this difficult time the community can support our team by donating to the Center on our website at www.alaskasealife.org/donate. You can also become a member of ASLC online by visiting www.alaskasealife.org/memberships. Donations and memberships directly support our animals and staff and assist the team in accomplishing important mission work.

At Home Learning Resources- Cranbrook Institute of Science

As COVID-19 spreads throughout the country, more and more schools are canceling classes and shifting their in-person instructional time online. Many classroom teachers are now trying to understand the ins-and-outs of "distance learning" for the first time and looking for free online resources for schools. What does instruction look like? How do teachers ensure students are still receiving high-quality education? What if the teachers do not have the time or resources to present difficult scientific concepts?

The good news is: help is available! Cranbrook Institute of Science has curated some useful learning resources, linked by topic, that can be used to help augment the "home school" experience. We'll be adding to the lists, providing educational videos via our website and social media platforms, and more.

Vancouver Symphony Orchestra - Discover the VSO's NEW Virtual Learning Hub

We are pleased to bring you and your family an assortment of fun and engaging musical learning experiences! The VSO Virtual Learning Hub offers a unique opportunity to learn directly from members of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra as they share personal insights and musical gems. Whether your children miss their school band, music class, or other ensembles, or you would just like to supplement home learning with the joy of music, the Virtual Learning Hub has something for all ages and interests.

At the VSO Virtual Learning website, there is a combination of free and paid content with pricing that is school-wide as well as for families/households.
The FREE content includes a VSO Virtual Field Trip, Storytime with the VSO, and a series of videos introducing students to the instruments that are often under-represented, like viola, bassoon, and oboe.

The PAID content (under VSO Virtual Connects) includes:
Music in Motion (for grades K-3)
A favourite lesson among younger students that richly blends music and dance.

Instrumental Workshops (for grades 6-12 and adult amateurs)
Specialized in-depth instrument clinics for band and string instruments. A great way to refresh the fundamentals of playing with a professional’s edge, while setting up smart practice habits.

Listen Up! (for grades 4-8)
Meet James and Jacob, members of the flute and viola sections, as they give an insider's view of Beethoven's 5th symphony. They will help you prepare to attend our online concert of this symphonic masterpiece! Students are invited to create artwork that will be compiled into a keepsake musical video for all participants.

Meet the Maestro! (for ages 8-adult)
Visit Maestro Otto Tausk at home in the Netherlands and learn about the life of an orchestral conductor and Beethoven’s beautiful Symphony No. 6.
Visit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYegTdb7O2w for a sneak peek "trailer" of what you'll find on the VSO Virtual Learning Hub.

We are also very excited to be preparing for an interactive VSO@Home Kids’ Concert! Details will be announced soon, and you can check back in at VSO@Home for updates.
The musicians and staff of the VSO wish you all the best as we navigate these challenging times together. We hope you’ll join us in connecting through music.

Garth Fagan Dance -- Two Wonderful Video Performances and an Invitation to Share Your Insights

Dear Friends,

During these dark and uncertain times, we find ourselves struggling for clarity and insight, as we sequester in our homes, depending upon technology as our lifeline to the world around us. Amidst all this uncertainty, we at Garth Fagan Dance bring you a bit of joy, light and positivity.

Below is an invitation to share your ideas and opinions with us in a community survey we'd been planning to conduct. Just click on the link to participate.  It will just take a few minutes, and they will be minutes well spent.

The second link below is one of our favorite Garth Fagan Dance videos.  It’s a recent performance -- and represents Garth Fagan Dance today.

We wish we could perform for you live and in person right now, but at least we can join you -- wherever you are -- for a few hopeful and colorful minutes.

Then, when you complete and submit your survey, you'll be redirected to a second wonderful video, representing Garth Fagan dance from a more historical perspective, decades ago when the company first began.

Taken together, you’ll get to experience -- at least virtually -- Garth Fagan Dance both “now” and “then”.  We hope you enjoy them both. They are our way of thanking you and wishing you well.

Our survey link: https://survey.vovici.com/se/201DFDBA21946BB6

Our first video link to a performance “now”: https://vimeo.com/399958867/367ce09965

Let's all do whatever it takes to stay safe, healthy, and hopeful.

And in the meantime, we invite you to forward this email message, and share the GFD joy, with anyone and everyone you know. They're all welcome to participate in our survey, and all welcome to enjoy our videos.

With deepest gratitude,
Garth and the Garth Fagan Dance Leadership Team

Classical Conversations

Great education starts with a firm foundation.

Homeschool with your elementary- and middle-aged children to build a solid understanding across core subject areas including English, math, history, science, fine arts and Latin. Foundations combines both Christian at-home and community-based learning models and resources to instill a broad range of vital skills and competencies.

Words, numbers, and sentences are essential to language development.

The Essentials program takes late elementary and middle school students far beyond what they would practice on a worksheet. Mixing memorization of strategic vocabulary, rules, and lists with a series of analytical tasks, they will learn strong written and oral language construction and usage skills. Through these exercises and hands-on-activities, students emerge prepared to tackle foreign languages, essays, and pre-algebra confidently.

Students will rise to a challenge.

Our Challenge program encourages junior high and high-school aged students to think critically and engage in dialectical discovery through each year-long program. With consistent progression, students will learn to craft persuasive rhetorical arguments as they deepen their connection to their minds, their community, and their faith.

It is here, in Challenge, that the homeschool journey really becomes fun. Working both independently and in community, students and parents alike will be amazed at what they are able to accomplish together, as they progress beyond the homeschool coursework and begin preparing college transcripts and even earning college credits.

First Orthodontic Visit of Your Child - When to Schedule & What to Expect

Child's first orthodontic visit

Early orthodontic treatment is your best bet when it comes to the alignment of your child’s teeth. According to the American Association of Orthodontists, children should undergo a dental check-up before turning 7 years old. Early detection of the problem enables an uncomplicated and inexpensive treatment.

Why at the age of 7? It is a perfect age as the children have a mix of baby teeth and permanent teeth. It will be easy for the dentist or the orthodontist to spot the malocclusions. Also, it would be best if you did not ignore any signs and symptoms of an underlying dental problem.

If your child faces any of the following 10 symptoms, you shouldn’t delay your child’s first dental check-up with a trusted orthodontist.

  1. Early or late loss of baby teeth
  2. Problem in chewing or biting
  3. Habits such as thumb sucking
  4. Missing Teeth Syndrome
  5. Misaligned, protruding, crowded, or misplacedteeth
  6. Overbite, underbite or crossbite
  7. Clenching or grinding teeth leading to TMJ disorders
  8. Slight speech problems
  9. Crooked teeth
  10. Facial asymmetry

You can refer to the below-mentioned checklist of the primary 8 procedures to be performed during the first orthodontic examination of your child.

  1. Medical History of your Child

After the initial introduction, the orthodontist will ask you for your child’s medical history. This may include any persisting oral problem, previous X-rays, andconsultations. This kind of case history is mandatory to form a treatment path suitable for your child. They might also enquire from you about any hereditary dental issues in your family.

  1. Oral Examination & X-ray

The oral examination will be conducted on a dental chair. They will examine the teeth of your child with the help of a torch and various other equipment. They will ask to bite and smile to detect any bite issue. They will also use 3D photographs and x-ray of the jaw and teeth to examine properly.

  1. The Findings of the Examination

After a thorough examination, the orthodontist will reach a conclusion. They will let you know if your child has any present oral issue or any possibility of malocclusions in the future. They might tell you at the same time. Or else you might need to do another orthodontic visit to know the final reports of your child.

  1. Treatment Options in Detail

Technological advancement has greatly benefited the field of dentistry. There are so many options nowadays apart from the good old braces. There are simpler devices like retainers, Invisalign, expanders, etc., which can treat manydental issues. If your child’s case can be treated with multiple treatments, your orthodontist will provide you with options.

  1. Duration of the Treatment

The advanced treatment methods generally come with lesser duration. But your child must be fit for those treatments. It is a possibility that your child’s case can be handled by traditional braces only. If the orthodontist suggests multiple options, ask for the ease of treatment along with duration. Afterward, you can decide the treatment according to your priority.

  1. Cost of the Treatment

Here also you should act according to your priority. You can also enquire if there is any finance or EMI facility available for expensive treatments. But don’t compromise the quality of the treatment for the cost. It should be noted that early orthodontic treatment is usually lighter on your pocket compared to the treatment starting at a later stage.

  1. Detailed Treatment Plan & Aftercare

Now that you’ve finalized the treatment, your orthodontist will educate you and your child about the treatment method in detail. They will tell you the number of visits required to the clinic, the amount of pain or discomfort involved in the treatment, and most importantly, the homecare and aftercare. They might also give you some literature to study in detail.

  1. Next Appointment Schedule

Once your child is done with the first orthodontic examination, you will be provided with an appointment for the beginning of the treatment. Your child’s first step towards a healthy and bright smile!

Key Takeaway!

The first orthodontic visit is painless and hassle-free.Thus, don’t ignore oral problems like crooked teeth, bite issues, and other symptoms mentioned above. It’s essential for your child’s dental health, overall wellbeing, and self-confidence.

Description

Advantages

Highfrequency

20 min / day;

3, 4 or 5 times/week

For children as well as adults, having a class every day makes learning smoother and much more consistent. You almost learn like you learned to speak naturally since your early childhood. The class is divided into blocks. Depending on age, the activities are adapted to each student. Broadly speaking, what is covered in the case is pronunciation, dialogue using everyday phrases, phrase learning to understand how to use grammar. All this through images, readings, videos and activities through the computer.

Short but constant practice. The new language gets much closer to being a part of your everyday life.

30 or 60 min,

twice a week

If you have time, twice a week offers both to advance in language learning and to carry out reinforcement activities that help to have greater confidence in the acquisition and use of words and phrases in a new language. The classes offer feedback on what was learned from the previous classes, the new learning of phrases, vocabulary, daily dialogues and through various activities understand the use of grammar, as well as the fun learning of tongue twisters, riddles and popular songs.

Two dedicated days in your week, with a more intensive session but still with sufficient recurrence to let your new language take roots.

30 or 60 min,

once a week

If you don't have time for 20 minutes a day, I recommend that you choose the 30-minute or 60-minute weekly class. This class offers a series of post-lesson activities that help strengthen what you have learned in class. This class is intended for those who wish to advance thanks to their personal dedication in carrying out the proposed activities. The online class therefore offers a few minutes to refresh what was learned the previous weeks and to learn enough new vocabulary and grammar to progress each week.

Economic, paced learning for the long run. You will enjoy escaping to your class once a week to have fun and learn!

Parent + kid(s)

30 min

Parents and children can take a language lesson together. You’ll be surprised how much fun learning together can be! You’ll encourage each other to learn, and at the same time enjoy sharing your thoughts and your successes. If you want to explore a new activity with your kid, or perhaps it’s your kid who wants to spend more time with you, this class offers a unique experience for the family!

Great family learning activity.

FamilyPreneur™ - Virtual Story Time: ABCs of Business

Join author, Meg Brunson, for a FREE virtual story time & introduce your kids to entrepreneurship with the book, ABCs of Business!

Pixel is a fuzzy friend who will take you and your child on an alphabetical journey through discovering what it means to be an entrepreneur.

The alphabet may start at "A", but Pixel's story does not! You'll start at "I" and read through each letter to explore 26 entrepreneurial concepts in a fun and easy to understand story format.

Entrepreneurial parents will enjoy introducing business topics to their children and sparking meaningful business conversations with them.

Younger children will benefit from practicing letter recognition beyond memorization by encountering each letter outside of the traditional ABC order.

Older children will add words like "niche" and marketing concepts to their repertoire.

In the end, each FamilyPreneur will feel empowered and ready to impact the world in their own unique way!
