CHILDREN'S BALLET

- Pre-Ballet (age 5 or entering kindergarten)
- Primary Ballet (age 6 or entering first grade) Secondary Ballet (age 7 or entering second grade)
During the academic year, classes are held once per week for 34 weeks (September–June). Summer classes meet once per week in 3–6 week sessions (June–August).
GENERAL INFORMATION

Pre-Ballet classes introduces students to the basic terminology and structure of ballet. They develop a sense of body awareness and coordination.
Students then progress Primary Ballet, where they enlarge their ballet terminology and are introduced to the basic positions of ballet training.
Secondary Ballet introduces students to the structure of the traditional ballet lesson, including barre and centre practice. Students work on developing proper alignment, placement, and turnout.
SUMMER BALLET (JULY–AUGUST)
We are offering one 6-week session of Primary Ballet (ages 5 and 6) in summer 2017.

PERFORMANCES (ACADEMIC YEAR ONLY)
The Nutcracker
Students enrolled in Children’s Ballet classes are encouraged to participate in HCD's production of The Nutcracker at the University of Hartford. Selection of performers is done by lottery. The lottery forms are due September 14. If selected, students must attend a casting audition and be available for all scheduled rehearsals throughout the fall, culminating in performances on December 9, 10, 11, 14, 15, 16, 17, and 18. Costume and audition fees will apply.
Spring Festival
Spring performance opportunities will be announced in 2017. Tuition rates listed below include a $65 spring performance costume fee.
Students who register after February 13, 2017, will not be guaranteed the opportunity to participate in the year-end performance. Participation is at the sole discretion of the faculty.
