Families with children younger than four years old are welcome to visit the Children’s Museum and Playscapes while registered children are participating in the program.
4 to 7 year olds: 8 students, one chaperone
8 to 13 year olds: 10 students, one chaperone
Fall 2016 Programs
The fall 2016 series is offered on Tuesdays, September 20, October 18, and November 15 or on Wednesdays, September 21, October 19, and November 16.
The Tuesday afternoon series for 4 to 7 year olds is sold out. There are still openings in the Wednesday afternoon session.
September 20 or 21, 1:30-3:30 p.m.: Shorter Days, Cooler Nights — In the fall, 150 years ago, what did families have to do to prepare for the winter? We will discover secrets to harvesting and storing crops and preparations for the upcoming holidays.
October 18 or 19, 1:30-3:30 p.m.: Sailors’ Superstitions and Sea Monsters — The oceans are very big areas to travel on relatively tiny, defenseless ships. Discover how sailors’ superstitions developed and what sorts of incredible things they saw on their journeys.
November 15 or 16, 1:30-3:30 p.m.: Astronomy — Discover the beauty of the dark night sky as we explore the stars, planets, constellations, and other celestial objects. We will see how sailors used them to navigate and how families across time used them to tell stories.
Homeschool Community Sailing
Students build their confidence as they practice boat handling and become familiar with the basics of water safety and wind. Our sailing instructors will teach your children how to control their boat and fundamental sailing maneuvers through classroom and on-the-water instruction. See schedule.
