Auditions for Ages 8-18 for The Wizard of Oz, Young Performers Edition

The Newington Children's Theatre Company, Connecticut's longest running children's theatre, is holding auditions for their first School-year Musical of their 56th Season, The Wizard of Oz, September 11-13, by appointment. No experience necessary. Children, ages 8-18, are asked to prepare a monologue from the audition packet found online (www.NCTCArts.org) and a song of their choosing to sing acappella. Rehearsals are September 22-November 29. Performances are November 30-December 9. Please note that the show will be double cast.
Dorothy Gale, a young girl living on a Kansas farm with her Aunt Em and Uncle Henry, dreams of escaping her mundane life. The family’s mean neighbor, Miss Gulch, threatens to impound Dorothy’s cherished dog, Toto, so Dorothy and Toto run away. They meet up with kindly Professor Marvel, who subtly convinces Dorothy to return home. Suddenly a cyclone hits, and Dorothy and Toto, seeking shelter in the house, are transported to the Land of Oz. Follow their journey over the rainbow and back again, realizing that there is no place like home.
Auditions and rehearsals take place at NCTC, located at 743 North Mountain Road in Newington. Performances take place at John Wallace Middle School, located at 71 Halleran Drive in Newington. While there is no cost to audition, if cast, there is a $300 participation fee. Not quite 8 years old and still want to be part of the production? Check out NCTC's In Performance classes for ages 5-8. Everyone enrolled in In Performance will be cast as a munchkin in the production.
